TRENDS: FINDING INSPIRATION IN CLASSIC STYLES

Trends are fun but true beauty is timeless. I love looking back at past hair trends and seeing which ones endured and became classics, like Lauren Bacall’s soft curls and Jean Harlow’s platinum waves. When you see a look you love, find a way to apply some aspect of it to your own style. In a word: Recycle! Raquel Welch’s look in the 60’s is similar to Adele’s look today. The secret is to adapt a style to your own look instead of trying to mimic a celebrity’s look, which far too many women do with the Kardashians and Jennifer Aniston. Rely on your inner beauty to guide you into a personal fashion revolution. My role models include Katherine Hepburn and Vivienne Westwood, women clearly in control and with styles that spoke volumes without having to say a word. Their style confidence inspires me to push the envelope and be my stylish best every day. Who are your style icons? How have you used their looks as inspiration?

LET IT SHINE

When you’re walking the fabulous streets of San Francisco, make a statement with your hair and let it SHINE! Healthy, shiny hair is youthful hair, and I’ve got a great trick to help you get it. Use your conditioner like it’s shampoo: Simply scrub your scalp with conditioner and rinse, instead of shampooing then conditioning. You’ll notice healthier hair in a matter of weeks. Your hair is one of your best accessories, so use it to full advantage. Sure you need to cut, color and style, but don’t forget the shine. Like putting on a pair of fantastic patent-leather boots, shiny hair makes a statement without going overboard. This year, make giving yourself shiny hair one of your New Year’s resolutions. You’ll get tons of admiring glances, and it’s so much easier to keep than giving up sugar or running a marathon!

The ponytail is not just a hairstyle, it’s a lifesaver

The ponytail was prominent on the runway last fall fall, dressing up holiday styles and everyday alike. Whether it’s a night out with friends or work wear, the bumped up ponytail can be your go-to hairstyle. Here are a few ideas for a fashion forward ponytail… Take a comb or brush and tease the crown section of your hair, smooth some hair over the bump, and put the hair into a ponytail holder. Then wrap a small section of hair around the holder and, like magic, you have a sophisticated do. You can also pull the hair to the side, below the ear and have the same look with a side ponytail. Another idea is to part your hair in the middle, or a heavy side part, smooth it out with pomade and create a sleek ponytail (of course wrapping some hair around the holder for extra polish). My vision is for every ponytail is to be dressed up so that it’s not an afterthought, it’s a destination.
